The Sziget Festival is one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe. This event is held every year on August, in the Northern side of Budapest, Hungary. The festival is held in a small island called Obudai-Sziget or "Old Buda Island".

Not only do they provide a great variety of music that individuals from all over the world, including Western Europe, come to listen, but they also include a party transportation, booths for food, alcohol, games, emergency support, and anything else you can think of.

The History Behind Sziget Festival

Towards the end of the Communist era in 1989, the happy summer lives in Budapest faced a large crisis on loss of governmental funding. A group of artists and rock enthusiasts came together and created the idea of a festival to bridge up the gap between society and the government.

The festival began in 1993 called "Student Island" where they were still trying to rebuild the loss of funds including their budget for the festival. By 1997 they were able to produce enough and create the festival a large enough for it to be known around the world including The Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, and Romania. It later grew to be known around the world.
